This mulling iron is handmade by our Old Sturbridge Village Blacksmiths. Made by sticking wrought iron in 3000-degree flames and striking the iron with a hammer as it glows intensely orange to weld it to its shape. Mulling irons were used beginning in the 17th-century by placing the heavy end into a hearth until red hot, then plunging it into the beverage of your choice to warm it and caramelize any sugar present. Use this authentic ironware as a historic decor piece or a functional tool to warm up beverages.
