Rebecca Howe Fiske lived in Lexington, Massachusetts in 1775 when the first battles of the American Revolution erupted outside of her front door.  She gave a detailed account of the events of that day in an 1827 edition of the Harvard Register.  In that account, she describes an altercation between a British soldier and a militiaman from Acton, MA that led to their deaths on her property.  That incident is depicted in a painting hanging behind her in this portrait.  James Frothingham's original stunning artwork is a recent addition to Old Sturbridge Villages' extensive collection.

Place this magnet on your refrigerator as a memory of that significant event in American History.
